Alex Würfel || Suitcase Magazine

It was a proud moment for everyone at Elite London HQ when we received the latest copy of Suitcase Magazine where a written piece by one of our beautiful girls, Alex Würfel was published!
Talking particularly about her experience as a working model and focusing solely on travelling, it is an indisputably beautifully written and inspirational piece of work.

L'histoire d'une valise avec un modéle

Life in general is a peculiar thing, and for those young individuals who are plucked from the streets and deemed interesting-looking, beautiful or complimentary alike, it may take some fascinating turns. They are offered the chance to trade in their unique looks for a ticked to an unknown destination, a promising journey.

The best part of my job is travelling. The worst part? Travelling. In the end anything in excess, even a good thing, is bad for you. The life of a model can be compared to that of a gypsy – we’re here today and gone tomorrow, away for a while and here to stay for a bit, travelling frequently. It can also be likened to living in a suitcase, all the belongings you take with you make up the closest thing you have to home, and you carry it with you from city to city. That is why packing should be done meticulously, especially when I have to stay in a city for a few months. Since there is a limit to how much I can take with me on my travels, choosing wisely is a must. This proves to be a predicament for me, which is why my amazing mother does my packing and is a great at it, by the way!

The erratic nature of my job affects most areas of my life from friendship bonds, food habits, hang-out spots, daily rituals and where I call home. I’ve also learnt that you can’t get too attached to people, especially in a dependent way, as the frequent distance can be detrimental to any relationship. You can’t really plan too far ahead in your personal life, since your job must come first, and this often entails a booker calling and telling you to pack a suitcase because you’re flying to NYC the next morning! Boom!
So I must always be prepared and available to travel when a client books me for a job.

When I travel I bring wit me a scented candle that I light just to give my new destination that homely touch. My favourite city to travel to and comfortably stay for a while is New York, it’s such a cliché I know, but I’m in love with the place. It is so cosmopolitan and there is a cornucopia of culture to be experienced in the daytime and all the way through into the night, 7 days a week! It oozes inspiration, summertime there is particularly cinematic, and the energy is contagiously positive.

It is crucial for models to go there with a sense of purpose, be strong-willed and keep focused. This industry is incredibly influential in positive and negative ways and how you are moulded as a result.
At the end of the day it is all down to your own character; the key here is to respond to a situation as opposed to reacting. If we have good morals close to our hearts and take ourselves seriously, this alone should keep us from diverging and allow us to achieve our ambition!
